Cones and flaggers are returning to Salt Spring for at least part of the summer, as BC Hydro said system work along one of the island’s busier stretches of roadway will begin shortly — and motorists heading north from Ganges could expect delays for at least the next several weeks.
The utility will be undertaking system-improvement work along Upper Ganges Road, between Lower Ganges Road and Long Harbour Road, according to an announcement Tuesday, June 9, as part of BC Hydro efforts to improve system resiliency and reliability for customers across the Gulf Islands.
“Work is scheduled to begin shortly and is expected to be completed by the end of July,” according to a press release. “Unfortunately, there will be traffic impacts and motorists should expect delays and periodic traffic disruptions in the work zone.”
BC Hydro said traffic control personnel will be on site to ensure safe movement of vehicles, and drivers should plan for extra travel time, obey all signage and use caution when travelling through the area.
To help minimize disruption to daytime operations and accommodate commercial customers, the utility said, some work will take place overnight.
“BC Hydro regrets the inconvenience to the public,” according to a statement, “and appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”
