Allan was born in London England. The family left and moved to Kerrisdale, Vancouver, BC when he was 9. Allan attended UBC were he received his teaching degree which evolved into a 14 year career. In 1978 he semi retired from teaching and began writing educational material By 1980 he was working in an art shop in Canmore Alberta. Allan picked up a piece of stone and he was a natural! Sold his first piece and the artist in Allan was born. In 1990 he came out to Salt Spring with some stone and fell in love with the island which for him was the perfect place for him to create. Allan also loved to create on the Island of Kauai where he went yearly.
After a long fight with cancer he never complained, never gave in and fought a hard battle he could not win, he was so brave. He would always make you laugh and never lost his sense of humor even in the last days he could always make you smile. Calm and peaceful he is sleeping, sweetest rest that follows pain. We who loved him sadly miss him, we trust in god we will meet again. A memorial service will be held at Meaden Hall on December 8th at 1:00 pm.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr Gummeson, Dr Crossland, Hospice and for all the love and care we received from the nurses at Lady Minto Hospital and the home care nurses. A special thanks to Stan and Victoria for putting on the celebration of life for an Icon on Sept 2. That was very special. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Red Cross or Lady Minto Hospital in the name of Allan Crane.
