B.A. (JIM) HEDGECOCK

April 1, 1926 – April 16, 2010

Jim was born in London, England and, after serving with the Royal Engineers in WWII, came to Canada with his parents, wife, and daughter. After a brief stay in Ontario, the family moved to B.C. in 1952, and to Salt Spring in 1964. Jim ran the B.A. bulk fuel business and a water taxi service before going to work for B.C. Ferries. He was involved in the organizing of ferry workers into the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union, and served on the Union Executive for many years.

Jim belonged to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 92, and, as a member of the Salt Spring Lions’ Club, was involved with the building of Pioneer Village and drove the local ambulance.

Jim will be missed by his wife Jean, son Peter, daughters Pat (Fred) and Angela (Dick), grandchildren Jen and Allyn, brother Nigel (Hanni) and nieces Kersten and Andrea.

After fulfilling a longstanding dream to travel across Canada from coast to coast, Jim and Jean had been living on Vancouver Island for the past few years, but returned to Salt Spring last year.

The Hedgecock family deeply appreciate the excellent care and endless kindness that we received from Dr. Ron Reznick and his staff and the dedicated and compassionate nursing staff at Lady Minto Hospital.

At Jim’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the SPCA or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
