Bernice Anna Sokol

Bernice Anna Sokol passed away 16 March 2012 in the Sun Pointe Village Nursing Home in Kelowna, BC. She was a frequent visitor to Salt Spring Island.

She was born on the family homestead near Melfort, Saskatchewan, one of fifteen children. It was there that she met and married Walter Leonard Sokol in 1935, and she lived with him in many communities throughout Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by him nineteen years ago, and by her grand daughter, Anne Elizabeth Junk, seven years ago.

Her passing is mourned by her daughter Bernice Junk, her husband and five children, of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and her sons, Leonard L. Sokol of Salt Spring Island, and Denis S. Sokol and his wife and three children, of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren and two great grandchildren and two of her siblings, Sister Anastasia Korycki SCIC and Sister Antonia Korycki SCIC, in St John, New Brunswick.

Music at her funeral mass in St. Alphonse Roman Catholic Church in Viscount, Saskatchewan was provided by the family. AnneA, for his sister and grandmother, was played by Greg Young, The Marcello Oboe Concerto was played by Kevin Junk, Gabriel’s Horn for Oboe was played by Kevin Junk and Maureen Ramsbottom, Pie Jesu was sung by Benedict Ramsbottom, and Bernice Junk sang the psalm, The Shepherd is My Lord. Piano accompaniment was by Paul Junk.

She was interred on 24 March, 2012, in a mild Saskatchewan snow storm, beside her husband of 58 years, who passed away on Christmas Eve in 1993.
