EDITH MARILYN SIGMUND

age 22 years

passed away suddenly, and by accident, on March 4, 2009, at Ganges, Salt Spring Island, BC

Beloved daughter of Lee Dianne Sigmund (Phillips), and Phillip Martin Sigmund of Salt Spring, sister Dean Phillips Sigmund of Lloydminster, AB, and Eric Martin Sigmund of Salt Spring. Edith had family from Ontario, Alberta, the Yukon, California and British Columbia.

Edith was born in the hamlet of Bragg Creek, Alberta, a small foothill community west of Calgary. She moved to Salt Spring as a small child and grew up on the island. Edith graduated from high school through the Phoenix program, thanks to the very special and caring attention of many of the staff there. She then worked for her father, volunteered at the SPCA, and in the past, babysat and cleaned in several households on Salt Spring. In doing this many community members experienced her kind and loving ways. Edith held a special passion for animals, especially those who had been abandoned or were in pain.

The family wishes to thank all of our friends who were extremely kind and caring during our period of grief. Michael Budd came from Calgary, consoled the family, and helped us to restore a sense of order in our house. A special note of gratitude is extended to the Salt Spring RCMP who have been sensitive and supportive during these troubled times. Many, many medical staff at Lady Minto and at Community Services have acted lovingly to help not only Edith but her family. We especially thank Marnie Poole, Dr. Karen Berg, and Dr. Nicholas Sladen-Dew, for persevering to the end.

Donations may be made in Edith’s name to any mental health program that seeks to restore the dignity of the individual and value to the community of those who suffer from mental illness and addiction.
