Elsie Alberta Lorch
August 26, 1922 – November 5, 2013
Elsie passed away peacefully at Greenwoods Eldercare Society on Salt Spring Island where she had been a resident for three years. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Dan Lorch in 1987. She is survived by her sister Betty Lavender of Winnipeg, her sons Rick Lorch (Anita), Jeffrey Lorch (Barb), daughter Cathie Newman (Cid), grandsons Justin Lorch, Nathan Lorch, Michael Lorch, Jason Lorch, and very close friends Shirley Legary of Winnipeg and Georgia Trousdale of Vancouver.
Elsie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba the third child of Charles and Sarah Alberta Lavender. She had a happy childhood making many life-long friends. She met Dan Lorch in Winnipeg and after the war, where Dan served in the RCAF, they married and moved to Vancouver, then North Vancouver to raise their family. Once her three children were in school Elsie fostered 21 babies for the Children’s Aid Society as well as doing volunteer church work and helping the disabled. When retirement finally came, Elsie and Dan moved to Lang Bay. Although Dan’s time there was short Elsie continued to live there until her 80th birthday when she moved to Salt Spring Island.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Greenwoods, the staff at Lady Minto Hospital, Dr. Woodley and the late Dr. Berg.
