DESCRIPTION:An audio-visual feast for the senses by four outstanding artists. The performance will feature visiting artists in residence\, Mind of a Snail (Chloé Ziner & Jessica Gabriel)\, SJ Kirsch\, and Viviane Houle. This work is curated by Terri Hron.\nNotes from the curator\, Terri Hron: We will be working on the immersive\, collaborative audiovisual performance\, A Voynich Manifesto\, that takes inspiration from a mysterious medieval manuscript\, written in an unknown language\, describing and visualising plants and star charts unknown to us on Earth. Likely appearing in Europe during the destruction of commons and the establishment of private property\, perhaps the manuscript was no longer intelligible within the capitalist order. For the artists of the Manifesto\, it acts as a touchstone towards imagining another present and future with forms of communication and relationships long obscured or hardly recognizable.\nCreating this reenchanted world are four artists whose practice and curiosity seek out as-yet unknown connections. Mind of a Snail (Chloé Ziner & Jessica Gabriel) intricately stitch sounds and handmade projections together to create multilayered stories at the intersection of puppetry\, visual arts\, clowning & music. Singer and sonic artist SJ Kirsch brings to life socio-politically relevant art song experiences and weaves resonant electroacoustic tapestries. DESCRIPTION:At Central Hall. 2 p.m.\nWe are pleased to welcome back Rocky Sampson for the second talk in his series “All My Relations”. Rocky first spoke for the Historical Society at Central Hall in the early 2000s and has continued researching his rich family history\, which includes First Nation\, Hawaiian\, European and Portuguese ancestry. His inspiration is in the stories taught him by his grandmother Laura Silvey\, daughter of well-known mariner Portuguese Joe Silvey\, whose story is woven into the history of the BC coast.   \nBuilding on his presentation at the April 2025 Historical Society meeting\, Rocky will share insights into his family’s connections and the diverse heritage of our region. This talk will focus on the first and second generations of children born to his Indigenous ancestors\, a generation that felt they did not “belong” and the racism they faced in a rapidly changing landscape. Rocky has been using Ancestry DNA to locate and connect with family\, recounting a deep history of resilience. Rocky has invited many relatives to this talk – and hopes to see you there too.

What begins as a tender sharing of memories gradually opens into a meditation on time\, impermanence\, and the fragility of life itself. Inspired by Shogo Ota’s play SARACHI\, Vacant Lot blends movement\, dialogue\, and stillness to explore both the ache and absurdity of human existence. Dancers Lindsay Clague and Ida move through joy\, loss\, and humour with exquisite nuance\, embodying our collective longing for connection. At once intimate and expansive\, this work teeters between the everyday and the eternal—where each moment is both fleeting and infinite.
