Florence Dodwell
1918 – 2015
Florence Olga Dodwell died peacefully February 20th, 2015. Born in 1918 to Norwegian immigrant parents, Florence grew up in Ocean Park where she and her parents, sisters and brother shared a close family bond. After graduating high school with honours, she got her degree in teaching and, later in life, her masters degree. Florence was very proud to be a teacher. She taught at Centennial Highschool in Coquitlam, as well as various schools in Quebec, where she raised her only son Ken, with her first husband, Crom Donaldson.
In 1972 Flo married Charlie Dodwell and they moved to Galiano where they lived an idyllic life for almost 40 years. There, Flo taught elementary school and was very active with the Church, the Galiano Golf & Country Club and the Bridge community. Florence was also known for playing a mean game of Scrabble. Besides an avid love of travel and nature, Florence had a real soft spot for animals – especially for her beloved cats. ? ?
Flo will be remembered for her great sense of humour and constant positivity. She is predeceased by her son Ken Donaldson, husband Charlie Dodwell, sister Alice Fox, and brother Bill Claman. She is survived by her sister Myrtle Alan, grandchildren Jenny Wilson and Chris Donaldson (Beth), great-grandchildren Oscar and Angus Donaldson, and stepchildren Pat Dodwell (Vicki), Pete Dodwell, and Pam Beasley (Wayne). As Flo would say, ‘Life is what you make of it’. ? ?
