Gladys Pushka
Feb. 13, 1915 — April 18, 2010
Gladys Pushka (nee Senko) was born in a log farm house near Lakesdale in rural western Manitoba. Gladys was the second youngest of nine children. In 1938, she married Fred Pushka, who also came from a family of nine.
The young couple moved to a farm just east of Angusville, and had two children, Loretta and Wayne. Sadly, Fred suffered a fatal heart attack in 1956, leaving Gladys to raise the children. Gladys ran the farm until her two children were grown. She then moved to Winnipeg, where she worked in the garment industry for many years. She was quite active in the union. Gladys lived in her own condominium in Winnipeg until she was 90. She then moved to Saltspring Island on the West Coast to live with her daughter and son-in-law and to be close to some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Loretta (Paul), Saltspring Island, B.C.; her son, Wayne (Patricia), of Burlington, Ont.; her grandchildren, Michelle (Ray), Aaron, and Robert (Barbara), of Saltspring; Jason, of Regina, Sask.; Dean (Caryn), of Grimsby, Ont., and Wayne (Jane) and Andrea, both of Toronto; and 12 greatgrandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. David Woodley for his gentle and understanding care of Gladys over the past four and half years, and the nursing, lab and X-ray staff of Lady Minto Gulf Islands Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to the Lady Minto Gulf Islands Hospital Foundation.
Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Drake Road, Ganges, on Friday, April 23, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Angusville, Man., at a later date.
