Turner, Gwendolyn Audrey
June 23, 1920 – March 25, 2013
On Monday, March 25, Mrs. Audrey Turner of Victoria passed away at the age of 92.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons Rob and John (Cecilia); grandchildren Trisha, Joshua, Tyrell, Nicole and Ryan; and nephew Tim (partner John). Her husband Jack predeceased last August.
Audrey was born in Prince Albert and raised in Saskatoon where she was active in many sports. Her specialty was diving. She was a three-time national diving champion in 1946, 1947, and 1948. In 1948 she won the Canadian Olympic trials but missed the Olympics as the country did not have enough money to send a female diver. Audrey was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1971.
Audrey and Jack married in Saskatoon and Jack’s employment with Imperial Oil took them to many locations in Alberta and a few further afield. Audrey remained active in diving, swimming and recreational administration. On retirement they settled in Victoria and enjoyed the charms of Vancouver Island.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cerwydden Care Centre in Duncan for their kindness and care in Audrey’s final months.
Audrey has been cremated and had requested there be no funeral service. The family gathered to share stories and remember a wonderful woman.
