PERRY, June
June passed away peacefully on October 4, 2013, ending an amazing life filled with family, close friends, travel and adventure. Born in Winnipeg Manitoba, June 12th, 1926, June left the Prairies at a young age with her first husband, a handsome, soon to be advertising executive, named Bill Ellis. After a short stint in Montreal, they moved on to Vancouver where they both fell in love with the city and its lifestyle. Soon after, their first son Mark arrived and then John. A surprise addition many years later was Barnaby. Life was busy with boating, skiing and socializing with friends in their numerous homes they designed and built in West Vancouver. Sadly, Bill’s sudden death in 1965 left June a young widow but in 1973 she fell in love for the second time when she met Captain Hector Perry on a ferry to Salt Spring Island. Her life continued to be a whirlwind of worldwide travel, volunteering, entertaining and boating trips with family. Despite her busy schedule, June found time to get a degree with honours from SFU. June and Hector eventually retired to Salt Spring where their lovely home, Eaglecroft, provided a welcoming and peaceful retreat for all of their friends, children and grandchildren. June immersed herself in the community of Salt Spring by volunteering for the Library, the Anglican Church and the Canadian Federation of University Women. Despite Hector’s passing in 2000, June continued to entertain and travel with family to the Bahamas and Hawaii. In her final years, she moved back to the West Vancouver waterfront that she loved so much. June had a charming and disarming wit, freely laced with her signature silvery laughter and a curiosity about life and people that entranced friends and family of all ages, and which remained a constant until the end. She will be missed by her sons, Mark (Suzie & daughter, Kate), John (Sheila) and Barney (Doug), Hector’s children Sue Jay, Sandy (Gary) and Alan (Debbie), and her grandchildren Caitlin, Spencer, Andrew, Owen, Meredith, Christie, Joanne, Mark Jr. (Jessica), Marina (Jon), Diane (Blair) and great grandchild, Joseph. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Lynn Valley Care Centre and her amazing companion, Weng De Leon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salt Spring Island Public Library (via www.canadahelps.ca) are appreciated. Two celebrations of June`s Life will be held: West Vancouver Yacht Club, October 18th at 5:00 p.m., and All Saints by the Sea, Salt Spring Island, October 20th at 3:30 p.m.
