Crystal (Chris) Wade

January 20, 1920 – July 28, 2008

My Mother passed away peacefully in the early dawn after

a brief illness. Born and raised in England, she returned

on many occasions to visit with her sister Myrtle, family

members and friends. Following her service in WWII with

the British Forces she immigrated to Ontario, Canada.

Settling in Caledon, she established a successful horse

business and continued to be a celebrated rider. After a

change in life’s direction, Mum moved my brother Michael

(deceased in 2006) and I to Pender/Saltspring Island,

British Columbia. She enjoyed the island life and became

involved and well known in the communities. My wife (Karen),

daughter (Rachelle) and I were fortunate enough to

have Mum live on the same street in Black Creek, Vancouver

Island for the last nine wonderful years.

My mother will also be lovingly remembered and sadly

missed by grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Jordan, as

well as relatives, friends and all those who knew her. Mum

lived everyday with a strong willed passion and concern

for everyone. She will be remembered for her wonderful

sense of humour and her unique perspective on life. May

we all be blessed to know a person like her; she will forever

be in our hearts and memories.

There are just not enough words to express how much I

will miss you Mum. All my love, your son Philip.

We gratefully acknowledge the special care given by Dr.

Ness and the 3rd fl oor staff at Campbell River Hospital.

There will not be a service as per her request.

F. Marion Andrew (nee King)

With sadness we wish to announce the quiet passing of Marion on the afternoon of July 10 at Lady Minto Hospital.

Marion will be dearly missed by the family: her sons Jim and Bob and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of a close knit family of brothers, Don and Bill, and sister, Pat.

A humanist of boundless energy. A great ‘people person.’ For some, a second mother. For many, always there for support. Always community minded and a strong supporter of the Arts.

Marion started an arts school in Winnipeg 50 years ago, which is thriving today. She helped start the Fulford OAP and later, with her dear friend Hedvig’s legacy, built the addition to Fulfurd Hall for the OAP.

In the words of others, Marion:

“Touched a lot of people”

“A pillar in the community”

“Gracious”

“A fighter”

and a great knitter.

All were Marion, always with a smile, always in service.

Great thanks to the Lady Minto staff and Dr. Leavitt for their wonderful care. A special thanks to the Bessie Dane Foundation for their love and attention to Marion in her last days.

The world is a better place for our Marion. A celebration of Marion’s life will happen in the fall on Salt Spring Island.
