ROBERT LAWRIE NEISH

1960 – 2009

Rob passed peacefully away on August 9, 2009 after a battle with cancer, fought with courage and dignity.

Rob is survived by his wife of twenty nine years, Shirley, and his children Candice and Christopher along with his parents, Lawrie and Aileen Neish, brother Alex and sisters Doreen and Morven. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.

Rob was born in the United Kingdom and came to Canada from Scotland with his family at the age of seven. After graduating from Gulf Islands Secondary School, Rob joined the Royal Canadian Navy in which he served until his death.

Rob had an enduring love of the sea from his early years when he was a leading member of Saltspring Island Sailing Club. Rob served in many of the navy’s destroyers and frigates prior to moving to administration. His final posting was to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. As a training officer he was very highly commended and thought of by his superiors for his high ethical values, leadership and motivational qualities. Rob was loved by his staff for his caring nature and dry sense of humour.

He was interred at the National Military Cemetery, Ottawa, with full military honours.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Terry Fox Fund.
