(née Mulligan)
1913-2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rosemary Stallybrass, peacefully on the 7th of January 2010 in Bedford (UK). Rosemary will be greatly missed by her children, Paddy and Rosamond, daughter-in-law Philippa, grandchildren Liam, Martyn and Alison, grandson-in-law Paul, great granddaughter, Mollie Rose and Martyn Stallybrass’s family.
Rosemary was born in Belfast and spent the early part of her life in England. Tragically her first husband Desmond, father of her children, died at the age of 39. She subsequently married Martyn Stallybrass of Western Canada in 1962.
From an early age she was a great traveller taking in Ireland, Iceland, Albania, New Zealand, France, Germany and for a large part of her later life the Gulf Islands. Together with her husband Martyn she took a great interest in island life particularly Prevost Island and the de Burgh family. She was an expert needlewoman and fine artist making exquisite Christmas and anniversary cards which are treasured by many friends and family.
To sum up the person she was we can do no better than reproduce a part of Barbara de Burgh’s kind letter written after Rosemary’s death:
“She and Martyn were almost like a second set of parents to the four of us and we loved them dearly. She was truly a remarkable person who could go anywhere in the world and be at home, make friends and always keep them, fit in and make the best of whatever situation she was in while maintaining her own values and standing up
for them. She was always interested in the welfare of all friends and family and certainly devoted to you and Ros and all her grandchildren. We found her to be a great friend in times of success with a pat on the back for anyone who had done well, and lots of sympathy and positive support for those who were in difficulty.”
A service will be held in Bedford on Thursday, January 21st 2010.
