Terry Ann McLees

In Memory of

Terry Ann McLees

Aug. 18, 1959 – Feb. 15, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Ann McLees on Sunday February 15, 2015 at Lady Minto Hospital, Salt Spring Island, B.C. after a long battle with cancer.

Terry was born August 19, 1959 in Spokane, Washington.  She  is survived by her Mother Carroll Morand and her Father James McLees, two brothers Bruce McLees and Brian McLees, and her two sons Nick Imonit (Sandra Huitt), and Harrison Cowling.

Terry received her Bachelor of Science degree at Evergreen State University in Olympia, Washington.  She had been a licensed captain and enjoyed many years working on the ocean.  Terry had lived with her two sons on board a 38 foot Ingrid Ketch for 9 years.  She loved sailing and took part in many sail boat races.

Terry also loved horses and spent hours looking after and riding her own.

She cherished life, and everyone who knew her will have many wonderful memories of her friendship and kindness, as well as her spontaneity and zest for life. In 1998, she packed up her son Harrison in a 1967 Volkswagen Bus and drove from Salt Spring Island to Baja Mexico where they lived for a year.

For the last eight years, Terry worked at Island Savings Insurance, primarily as a Commercial Insurance Broker.  She always greeted members with enthusiasm and a big smile. It was her goal to have the members leave feeling happier after having had a conversation with her.

“Tonight a new star shines in the night sky; farewell to the beautiful spirit, Terry Ann McLees. A friend and co-worker, she was a radiant light, so full of joy and love and life. Her spark will shine on, though she will be greatly missed.”

At Terry’s request there will be no service. A big thank you goes out to Dr. Creighton, the nursing staff at Lady Minto Hospital, the homecare nurses, and home support caregivers.

Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
