Carolina Johanna Griffiths
May 28, 1944 – July 12, 2013
Suddenly, after a short but intense struggle to live, Carolina passed away, peacefully, on July 12, 2013 in Intensive Care at Victoria General Hospital.
She was born as Carolina Johanna Weterholt at Enschede in the Netherlands on May 28, 1944 and later became a good teacher of young children.
She came to Canada in 1968 for a visit, but she fell in love with this country, and so she stayed for the rest of her all too short life. She met John while sailing Lake Ontario and they married in 1973, living in Toronto. In 1987 they visited Salt Spring Island, then moved here with their two adopted children, Jacquie and Peter and never thought of leaving.
She loved nature and animals. She treasured her many friendships, and the laughter. She will be missed by all of us.
Our thanks go out to Dr. David Beaver and to Jane and Pat and to all the staff at VGH’s ICU for their expertise and compassion. It was remarkable. Carolina is now finally at peace. She had expressed her wishes for cremation and that later her ashes will be mingled with her husbands, and it will be so. There will be no services or gatherings. Those who knew her can remember her each in their own way.
Until we meet again my dearest.
