HILDEBRANDT, Edgar

April 14, 1942 – April 6, 2026

We want to celebrate the life of our dear Edgar. He was born in the Ukraine and spent half his childhood in Germany before emigrating to Canada with his family. They settled in Vancouver until he left on his worldwide travels.

After many adventures he met the love of his life in New Zealand, married and had three children. In 1980 he moved back to Vancouver with his family and ended up spending the last decade of his life on Salt Spring Island. He embraced life and everyone he met, but his greatest joy was living close to his three children and being Opa to his six grandchildren.

Forever remembered by his wife, Gloria, children, Adina, Adam and Gretta, and grandchildren, Cypress, Aidan, Chloe, Ezra, Summer and Nicholas.

We would like to thank Dr. Kalf and everyone at Lady Minto Hospital for their compassion and kindness to us all in his final days.

May he be remembered for his laughter, dad jokes and endless stories.

  1. Dear Ed how i will miss our regular video calls, your laughter, your wisdom, your love of life, the way you embraced it all. Over 60 years ago you came into our lives, we were a happy foursome and our children came along at similar intervals, all six of them between us. You were such a huge influence in our lives. We learnt all about Canada from you, we loved how you had a story about everything. We are so pleased to have shared it all with you. So, so much I could write about, so, so much to thank you for. So grateful to have known and loved you. I will always love our dear Gloria, Adina, Adam and Gretta and cherish all those memories. Thank you Edgar. 💜💜

  2. On behalf of the Simonis family, we were so sorry to hear of Edgar’s passing. His friendship and his fantastic storytelling skills created a lifelong connection with each of us. His kindness in my father’s final days was a tribute to his compassion and empathy

  3. I had the pleasure of working with Eddy for a number of years. I loved his witty comments. He always made me feel good as part of his team. It was no doubt the best 8 years of my 27 years with the company. Ed took interest in my family, always asking how they were. You could tell Eddy was a great family man. There were many special times with lots of laughter.
My family and I will miss you, Eddy.

  4. Unc the hunk. You were an incredible uncle even when I was small, visiting us in Campbell River. I’ll never forget those times. And the countless ones after, forever being one of the best family men ever! Love you forever!
