Joy Coupland

January 11, 1949 – July 15, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joy. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at Lady Minto.
Thanks to the wonderful compassionate staff at Lady Minto for being so kind to her and us for the past while.
She will be missed dearly by her husband Alan, daughter Louise (Tony), son Andrew (Megan), and her 5 grandsons Graham, Isaac, Charlie, Jacob and William. She loved her only brother David who passed away earlier this year on Salt Spring.
Joy was born in Birkenhead, England. During her youth she was a great dancer and was a member of the Liverpool Ballet. In 1974 Joy and Alan moved to Hull then to Chelsea, Quebec to enjoy a new country and opportunities. During her life she was always a volunteer for school events and worked with special needs children at the local school. She was the coordinator at the Chelsea Community Centre for years and loved being involved in the community.
Joy and Alan moved to Salt Spring in 2001 after the birth of their first grandchild. Here she was very dedicated to the Salt Spring market and sold her knitted strawberry hats and various other creations. Joy always loved knitting and was known for never following a pattern yet always designing beautiful knitted clothing. She was a bright light and enjoyed her market friends and having a good laugh every Saturday afternoon. She enjoyed being part of her grandsons daily life and loved sneaking them for ice cream or to the beach.
There will be a small family service.
